While I'm keeping an open mind with regards to the anime, the trailer itself is the classic example of how to annoy viewers while giving them nothing of what they want to see. It's a 1:10 long trailer with 20 to 25 seconds of actual anime, none of it action.

Am I somehow mistaken that the objective of a trailer is to build anticipaction for the upcoming product (especially when its previous iteration was a horrible live-action movie)? I watched the trailer and thought "Well, that was a whole lot of nothing and a waste of my time". While I will still check out future trailers, there's only one chance to make a first impression and this trailer does nothing to make a good impression.

Hopefully the anime will suck less than the movie it's based on. I guess it will look cool, if nothing else.

Agree about the trailer DClark. The music was epic though, to bad that most likely isn't the music the anime will use. There is not much else to say, since the trailer was basically nothing.

Also the "posted" link in the article gives a 403. To get to the trailer you have to use the "website" link.

Nono, I was thinking the same thing, but really, is there any way it could actually manage to be WORSE than the movie? I really doubt it. Doesn't mean it will be any good, but it'd be almost impossible to be worse than the movie.

They look like they're playing it serious in this version, but I don't think the camp was the problem as much as story.

I haven't seen the movie from Kurt Wimmer except for some trailers that were visually appealing with colors, effects and choreography.

Sadly I feel like those things will be missing in the anime adaption since everything was grey in the trailer Sad

I'm still hoping for Gun Kata to show up.

I liked the trailer. It looks like the one from TAF.

The credits were in English so R1 is the target I bet.

that's a pretty hideous character design, geez. Maybe I'd feel differently if I watch it, but that just looks kind of ugly

You saw all the cool stuff in the trailer, the rest of the movie was very bad. Actually the whole movie was nothing but poorly done colors, effects, and gun kata. Stylish just to be stylish with no substanance.

Looks like this may be some sort of story reboot though, Violet was a vampire in the movie and not some supersoldier. There is enough for them to salvage at least and maybe they can pull this.

In the movie vampires were rounded up, put into camps, and apparently put to death. Yeah it was a very distasteful and poorly done allusion to the Jewish holocost of WWII. They show scenes with vampires having to wear armbands denoting they are vamps, piles of old shoes and luggage, and the establish dressed like WWII Germans. Even though they are made out to be innocent victims the vamps in the movie were all (except for Violet) portrayed as thugs and nutjobs.

I don't see why it wouldn't be used considering its also the music from the live action film.

They aren't really vampires though. Other than their teeth they really don't share any major traits with traditional vamps.

Hemophages are what they were called in the movie and they were people infected with a virus that shortens their life span and they were highly contagious (which is why infected people are rounded up and killed, to prevent it from spreading) but with that shortened life span they gain some heightened senses and abilities. And they weren't thugs and nutjobs, they were rebels trying to do what they could do to survive.

And it isn't really distasteful because we all know that if a situation occured where the world's governments had to mass "quarantine" thousands to save billions, they would.

Part of the problem was that Screen Gems supposedly basically kicked Kurt Wimmer off of the project once the filming was done (and Milla Jovovich was locked out too). People who saw a rough-cut of Ultraviolet said the version they'd seen was about 30 minutes longer and had more backstory, better action scenes, and more of a sense of humor.

I'm not saying it would have been an enduring masterpiece (Equilibrium was merely an okay movie with a neat sci-fi action gimmick after all), but everything I've heard has been to the effect that it could have been much better if not for idiotic studio politics. I would really like to see a real "director's cut," but that doesn't seem likely to happen any time soon.

I definitely intend to check out the anime when the opportunity arises, but the trailer doesn't exactly tell you much, and I'm definitely not holding my breath.

I don't know much about the source material but Dezaki, Sugino, Madhouse and Romi Park sound like a recipe for win to me.
