That's a great number. I hope these new consoles will help developers create games easier. This should be an interesting next couple of years with steam box getting into the market.
My opinion wait and see what comes out and go from there. |

Out of curiosity, why are you proud of it?
I've never experienced a launch before, so this was interesting to watch. It's sad that there seemed to be so much crazy stuff happening around Sony and especially Microsoft. Sony hasn't messed up too terribly even with this blue light, unless it becomes more common, but Microsoft has just really disappointed me. I don't think I'll get a PS4 at launch, but they're sure to put some good games on it later on in its cycle, so I'll check it out, then. |

I would wait a few months while they work out the kinks in the system and release patches, updates or fix quality control issues.
but I would still get one since I enjoy my current PS3 system. |

Same here. Definitely getting the PS4, but that wont be until January. I just bought two new PS3 games, so im in no rush. Hopefully, most of the bugs and junk are dealt with by then

Mainly because I really don't have strong faith in the future of console based gaming considering that digital downloads are becoming more and more prevalent by the year. |

While I understand your sentiment, the number of major publishers releasing PC games which are essentially open betas you have to pay for the privilege of participating in doesn't exactly inspire confidence, either. I'll go where the games I'm interested in are. At the moment, that's Playstation. |

No new medium venture is going to be met with immediate approval. There will be resistance and criticism at first which will pretty much play out how the service will be established in the future. Apparently, publishers and service providers will eventually have to cater to the demands of the public if they want to survive. Once digital services become more and more frequent, customers will make their voices heard and the companies will eventually have to retool their policies or risk going under. |

I'm a bit confused. Are you saying that the shift to downloads will be the downfall of the console space, or that the console space is dying due to downloads [on other platforms]? If it's the later, I'm pretty sure every retail PS4 game is available on PSN. |

But paid betas aren't always bad. You get to play the game earlier, it can be bug-tested much more rigorously, and you actually get to have a hand in how the game is developed. An example would be the racing simulator Project C.A.R.S. The devs Slightly Mad Studios used a kickstarter-like model where you could pay for access to alpha builds, and post on the forums. Players can directly talk to the devs, report bugs, suggest changes, among other stuff. The system is working really great right now--the game is coming along perfectly, and those who paid early will recieve free copies of the game, and actually are entitled to a portion of the profits when the game launches! Personally, I'd rather pay for a beta and be able to have a hand in te development. That freedom is why I love PC gaming. |

PC gamers seem to suffer from a severe lack of attention or something apparently . anywhere there's a topic about consoles, there they are. nobody wants to read about it. why can't people understand just because you like one thing, doesn't mean the rest of the world will too, so stop pushing it down everyone's throats. anyway why do you care? It's not like they are wasting your money buying it.

Actually, you should take note that a good portion of games are downloadable on the consoles as well, not just the main retail games. So in a way, that statement is a bit close-minded to what's really out and about. A lot of good games are available in all formats on all platforms, so to just stick with one format is not really as "faithful" a sign as you might think you could actually be. I'll definitely go with a new console soon, but not immediately since like anything, there's bound to be a few bugs that will arise, so I'd rather wait a while until most of the bugs are kicked out and fixed. |

Vortia brought up PC games, I don't see why I couldn't respond to him/her. Also, Project CARS is gonna be a PS4 game. I am intending on asking my parents for a PS4 for christmas (I'm unemployed, school matters more). Hopefully, there'll be a price drop and hopefully there'll be some good exclusives, otherwise I'll just get a good gaming PC instead. The move to x86 is a blessing and a curse, devs times'll be shorter but if more games are released on the PC I'll just go to that...hope some good Japanese games come out. |

The core gamers will always buy, but the issue with this coming gen of consoles is if the casual gamers will continue to buy. That 1 million PS4s got the core gamers out; now it's just a matter if there's going to be a long tail of sales from casual gamers.
BTW, Japanese core gamers are pissed that they're not part of the launch party: "Lonely this Christmas: Japanese gamers feeling left out in the cold as new consoles launch elsewhere" But at least they avoid these types of launch issues. (And we get that the PS4 is eschewing the all-in-one entertainment system to concentrate as a game console, but they didn't have to take away some of the past useful simple non-gaming features like local and LAN media playback and USB storage. Seriously Sony, can ya put those back in the next software upgrade?) Anyways, we got this too (shhhhhh!): 
So we're already thinking of connecting the PS4 HDMI output to the XB1 HDMI input, then the XB1 HDMI output to the TV, so ya can see both PS4 and XB1 on the same TV at the same time!

I agree with your statement but we still have a few years, on the most part, before digital sales exceed physical sales, this is also the same for streaming. Many people still don't have a fast enough internet connection to move fully on to download, its just not time effective for some (plus Granny still wants to buy her grandson a game not some strange online money  ). Moving to digital shouldn't reduce your faith in the console industry as Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo etc will just release a generation of consoles which only use downloadable content, which even the last generation of consoles were able to do.
Really your faith shouldn't be lost in the gaming industry itself but with physical media. *** Anyways its good to see Sony sell well and hasn't had a fiasco as bad as the 360's red lights (I'm not bashing Microsoft as I have a working 360 on my self and my PS3 is broke collecting dust in the attic ).
If I was going to get any of this generations consoles it would be the PS4 but lets see how the Xbox One's release fares. |
