That's great! From the Silconera article, I expected the releases to ONLY have Japanese voice-overs, so the news that we'll be getting a dub too is pretty great.

EDIT: Darn, got my hopes up. I'll still get it, but I wish it was dubbed. I can understand them not wanting to take the risk, though, since it's on Vita. Still, those name changes are going to sound pretty strange with the voiceovers.

So, it IS getting a dub? I saw a few conflicting stories about it, yesterday.

BamcoEU specifically said on their twitter account that they don't have an english dub for the game. https://twitter.com/TalesofU/status/476459746338545664

So... unless something has changed, or unless ANN has a different source....

EDIT- D'aaaw, I got a "thanks" Smile . ....though, part of me kinda WAS hoping ANN had a diffent source. heh.

The article also fails to mention German as one of the subtitle options.

Anyway, I would prefer it dubbed, as well. This could easily lead to les sales, but I will still buy it, even if the NA release is only subbed, though it will be a low priority to play on such a small screen with having to read everything now.

Awesome! I skipped the 3DS Tales game because of the English dub, will certainly pick this one up if it's in Japanese.
The Vita has been getting so many great Japanese games all of a sudden.

Perfectly fine with Japanese only. If it makes it cheaper so we can get more games that is a huge plus to me.

It's about time the localization teams seen the light, a Sub only future should've happened in the PS2 era.

I'm fine with dual-audio, but uhhh....why should sub-only be a thing? I prefer English dubs, and prefer to play that way. Not to mention that it makes battling annoying if I have to look at subtitles while the characters are doing in-battle banter.

There's no reason to take subtitles away from console releases--I've enjoyed the dubbing in almost every Tales game, and it appeals to fans who are more casual in the JRPG scene, at least when they first find the game.

Case in point: When I was younger, I played a few games, mainly Zelda and Mario. I only had a Gamecube. Then my sister gave me a used PS2, and a friend loaned me Tales of the Abyss. I was blown away by the story, and the voice acting of all the major characters--especially Luke and Jade--was amazing. I played about 5-7 hours a day until I beat it, and found other RPGs and JRPGs after that. That got me into the genre, and let me find classics like Shadow Hearts and Suikoden. That led me to other genres of games, but JRPGs are still my number one.

Where am I going with this? At the time, I did not watch subtitled anime. Streaming wasn't a thing yet. I didn't watch much anime in general, but when I did, it was dubbed. I honestly doubt I or my friend would have gotten into Abyss if it was subbed. She heard about it from a friend, and that friend didn't watch anime at all. She got it likely because it, like EVERY OTHER GAME RELEASED IN THE WEST had a dub. A dub was expected. Games released in the west have dubs.

And how small was the Tales series fanbase back then? Tiny. Quite a few people didn't even know it was a series, and thought Symphonia was the only one. Do you think the series could have gotten to where it is now, when in 2008--2011 and even now fans are still worried about getting another game, if it had been only in Japanese? I don't. I honestly believe the series would have stopped coming over.

So yeah, dual-audio's great, but there is no reason at all to remove dubs entirely. That's a pretty insulting to discount the efforts of the dub voice actors.

They technically haven't "seen the light" as you claim here. Sub-only is actually more niche in the west than dual audio or english audio only. Most games in the west that received sub-only treatment have proven how low they actually sell compared to similar titles that offer other language audio depending on the region released in. Europe sells best with english, german, french, italian, spanish, etc. audio. NA sells best with english and sometimes french and spanish. It is basically regionalized localization that sells the best with other languages as a minority and usually don't attract new audiences.

Yeah, I'd prefer to have a good english dub myself, but I can deal with a Japanese language only track if that means we'll get a game we'd otherwise not get.

Especially VITA games we'd otherwise not get. *hugs Vita* .

Are you freaking kidding me with this post? Likely you're another of those damn sub purists who thinks everything should stay Japanese voiced because you think it's superior even though you likely have no idea what they're saying, just like the rest.

There hasn't been a low budget dub for a Tales game since Vesperia.

Even if Abyss and Symphonia didn't voice skits, they still were quailty dubs.
