yeah, the twist at the end was a let down, i prefereed the fan theory of the world being bad becasue the world was bad, that the fight with doronbow left the world in such a sorry state that yatterman enslaving people was really the best course fo action so humanity could survive.

There's a whole stretch of episodes that might as well be an actual children's show - Doronbow save a fisherman who wants to have sex with fish

What the hell kind of children's shows have you been watching, Nick?

While I did not have a problem with the shows plotting, the themes and how they were addressed were slightly problematic. It is clear that the shows writers just couldn't come up with enough material. Though I greatly enjoyed the episode with the Mach 5 over things like pedophile fisherman or its totally not nessy.

That final episode was a great episode with the original yatterman song and all, but I totally got un-invested with the reused fight animations. I guess if you compare this to Gatchaman Crowds, Crowds would have to be the better show. Personally I'd give this show a B- in total, but I can't really refute your assessment Nick.

I also didn't have a problem with the plot, but there were certainly many consistency issues... and the animation in the last episode is honestly unforgivable.

On a side note, I'd like to address just how different Nick's rating of the show is compared to Rose's in her weekly review. (C and B+, which is a great difference). I suppose it just comes to show how arbitrary ratings in general can be.

All legitimate criticisms. In particular this show would have benefited considerably from an exemption from the rule that all animés have to have a multiple of 13 episodes regardless of how much material the writers have got - the filler was just pointless.

But for me, the flaws only diminished the show from potentially world-class to just very good. A superb meditation on the fact that most of the evil in the world is done by those who consider themselves virtuous, not by those who consider themselves villains.

The scene briefly referred to in the review, where spoiler[the secret police tell the man to be taken to a forced labour camp that he should be honoured to be selected to work for Lord Yatter - where he looks at his friends and then his wife in horror as they accept this lie and begin maniacally chanting "Yatter! Yatter!" - and finally accepts the lie himself and joins in the chanting ] - is one of the most harrowing scenes I've watched. A superb retelling of the "He loved Big Brother" moment from 1984.

One question for those who know the original Yatterman - spoiler[Dokurobei rants that the Yattermen had no right to stop him from collecting the Skull Stones that were the MacGuffins of the original show.] Is this accurate or just self-serving on Dokurobei's part? It reminded me of a rant in another show or comic - I can't remember where - about the Trix adverts where a rabbit is repeatedly prevented from eating Trix for no real good reason. Even, allegedly, when he buys the cereal with his own money. Children are just told that he's bad for wanting Trix (and that Dokurobei was bad for wanting Skull Stones) and accept that as face value. Which has rather unpleasant parallels if you think about it.

I have a very strange relationship with this series. I ADORED the first episode, and like others have said if it would have stuck with that line of thought it could have been a masterpiece. The filler is what ruined it for me. It just feels like such a waste, then they crammed the main plot into the last three episodes. If the series was only a 6-8 episode OVA and fleshed out the ending a bit more. It would have been amazing. But now it just has to settle for pretty good.

The last episode had some pretty messed up animation, which I believe is supposed to be fixed for the Blu-Ray. Despite that, it had probably one of the most emotionally rewarding endings of any anime I've seen lately.

Also, It's going to be hard to get the "Yatter yatter yatter" chanting out of my head. That and the pose...I still find myself chanting Yatter sometimes...

I REALLY liked the first half of this series.....especially the opening for the series.

There is a serious problem with atleast episodes 7-10ish or rather there is because they are apart of this series in compassion to 1-6 or even 11 and 12. they break the somewhat thin ice that episodes 1-6 skate on so magnificently.

Episodes 11-12 would have been better (not considering animation) if they were able to do almost anything that would have continued the ideas of 1-6. That said the plot twist are all fine and ok(ish) paced with one being foreshadowed to much I think.

Which brings us to the character development for gatchan and aloulete both have a decent amount though Aloulete could have received more screen time to show her development and make it more of a proper arc and not just tacked onto gatchans.

Overall I would call yaterman night my disappointment from the last season. It's not a bad show but seeing it fall from grace and not be able to pick itself back up really was a sad sight.

So it has turned out that I was right not going after the first episode.

While fans were sure that the show is going to be great, I outlined the apparent fundamental weaknesses that did not promise long-lasting result. But I did secretly hope that the show can become actually good and that I will get back to watch it if ANN rating will be great; not happened.

As has already been mentioned, MaxSouth, there's a pretty big difference of opinions on this one between posted ANN evaluations. During the episode-by-episode reviews Rose had some similar criticisms (the filler episodes were a problem thematically, there were some awkward tonal shifts, the ending was rushed) but sharply disagreed with Nick on other points (character growth for Leopard, animation in the final episode) and the final evaluation.

Hence, while I wouldn't exactly call this show polarizing, it's one that can apparently generate a pretty dramatic split in evaluation.
