Kadokawa's Famitsu.com website previewed a thumbnail for this week's issue of the Weekly Famitsu magazine on Tuesday. The preview reveals that Sega is developing PlayStation 4 versions of its Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4, and Yakuza 5 games. The magazine will contain more details about the releases, but the article specifies that Yakuza 3 will ship on August 9, and will retain the same content. It will have 1080p full HD resolution, and will run at 60 frames per second.
Sega released Yakuza 3 (Ryū ga Gotoku 3) in Japan in 2009, and in 2010 in the West. Sega released Yakuza 4 (Ryū ga Gotoku 4: Densetsu o Tsugumono) in Japan in 2010, and in 2011 in the West. Sega released Yakuza 5 (Ryū ga Gotoku 5: Yume, Kanaeshi Mono) in Japan in 2012, and in the West in 2015.
Sega released the Yakuza Kiwami 2 game in Japan for the PS4 on December 7, and will release the game in English on August 28. Yakuza 6: The Song of Life launched on the PS4 in Japan in December 2016, and launched in North America on April 17.
Sega Holdings President and CEO Haruki Satomi previously stated in an interview last month that Sega's Yakuza Studio (Ryū ga Gotoku Studio) is currently working on an as-yet unannounced title for home consoles.
