Only includes series that are already completed, with some series such as Elfen Lied or Rurouni Kenshin including the manga to finish off the story that was never fully adapted into anime. I watch the dubbed versions of anime, so subbed series may not appear on the list and a poor dub may result in a lower ranking than it would have been with more care put into the English performances.

Cowboy Bebop (TV) Masterpiece What can I say about this series that hasn't already been said? I guess I can give my Bebop experience. I watched this series after hearing time and time again that it was the 'greatest anime of all time.' While I do not personally agree with that statement, I cannot deny that it is most definitely one of the five best. The series has a slow start, but by the end of the 1st third of the series, the action elevates to a such a level that one cannot help but become enthralled by it. The jazzy soundtrack is a perfect fit to the cool, smooth characters. The soundtrack to this series is most definitely my favorite of any anime series. I also love the episodic nature of this series, proving that anime does not need to have long running arcs to maintain your attention. And once you make it to the finale to the show? - Pure, distilled awesome. This is one of those series that also seems to get better with re-watches. If you are curious about getting into anime and aren't ready for the long arcs associated with it, give this series a watch.
Death Note (TV) Masterpiece
Dragon Ball (TV) Masterpiece Oh boy, where to start? First of all, I consider this to represent Dragonball and Dragonball Z/Kai. The main issue people seem to have with this series is the filler polluting it. I think this is a valid criticism of the series, particularly in Z, which is why I prefer Kai to it despite the unnecessary editing tacked on it. With that rant out the way, back to my thoughts on it. Dragonball is mystifying in its ability to blend action, comedy, and fantasy together. Numerous small references from Journey to the West, Superman, and Terminator, to Alien, the Rabbit in the Moon folktale, and Jackie Chan. There is a reason this is one of the most copied anime. The greatest asset of this series is not the epic action scenes, but rather the heart put into it. This is not to say it is the most dramatic, emotionally wrenching, funniest, or even best choreographed in the action scenes, but this series seems to have a certain charm about it that just welcomes newcomers to it. This is the first anime that I fell in love with and acknowledged as an anime (sorry Pokemon). I can safely say that this is one of my personal 5 favorites without being fooled by nostalgia-tinted glasses.

School Rumble (TV) Excellent I have a soft spot for this series. I was watching this series at the same time I started watching Cowboy Bebop and not only did this series keep my interest just as much as Bebop, but at the time I actually got more enjoyment from this! By combing the tropes 'All Love Is Unrequited' with 'Love Makes You Dumb,' this series portrays the comedic suffering love can put you through with an extremely likable cast. It was the first romantic comedy anime series that I ever saw and still to date, no other anime has made me laugh as hard as I have during this series (with the possible exception of One Piece). I could not recommend this series enough to everyone.
