I was actually really excited when Daisuki announced that they got Bottle Fairy as it was always one of those early 2000s shows that I missed out on due to being out of Anime fandom for most of that time. Haveing watched five episodes of it is very much a product of its time.

I actually watched Nagasarete Airantou a few years back. It was the most standard, bland, by the numbers harem anime ever. You know, when the concept is "teenage boy is stranded on an island of women who haven't seen a man in generations," you know it's gonna be a harem. But I thought it had some potential to be a particularly funny or interesting one. It goes below archetypal harem members and instead gives each of the dozens of women on the island a single personality trait while making the male the typical "I just wanna be friends" guy who runs away from all the girls who clearly wanna jump him.

Come on guys! If you make him perverted it can lead to some funny comedy instead of discomforting sexual assault (just because the genders are flipped doesn't mean I should find it less repulsive). You could've even gone the serious route (at least semi-serious) and showed the impact on a civilized male playing off of several members of an underdeveloped society.

I know, I know. "It's just a harem anime. What'd you expect?" Well, Konosuba, Steins;Gate, most Nasuverse works, Re:Zero, and even Tenchi Muyo have shown that harems can be a lot more than just a harem. They can be outstanding works with memorable, distinct characters (whether they fit into an archetype or not, characters can still be interesting members of those archetypes).

By the end of watching the show, I couldn't remember a single person's name. I didn't care if this thing got licensed or not, but apparently it did now. "Hooray."

After all this years... I remember finishing Mama is a 4th grader on raws back 10 years ago. Mirai-chan's super duper cute and the rest of the gang are so much likeable.

Man, Nagasarete Irantou... this show came out at the twilight of the era where everything that aired on Japanese television was getting licensed, and it didn't get licensed! All my friends in college dug it, but I think it was the Galko-chan effect where everyone only watched it because the one cute girl in the group was watching it.

I took one look at this dumb series and decided I may as well watch Love Hina.

I sure hope this works out for Daisuki.

That said: Bottle Fairy. There's a cute, harmless show I forgot existed. I think it makes a nice pairing with Gdgd Fairies.

The "Nagasarete Irantou" manga started in Jan. '02 and the latest volume came last Oct. In terms of harem/love triangle manga that have run the longest in terms of years, it's up there with "Ah! Megami-sama".
