Honestly... I liked S1 a lot more, though I do enjoy S2.
"Normal" Umaru wasn't very interesting and I never really enjoyed the joke of her being an A+ student whose actually a slob at home. But I really liked "gremlin" Umaru being a selfish spoiled kid.
In S2 I find that both version of Umaru are about just as enjoyable, but S1 was 70-80% Gremlin Umaru and 20-30% normal Umaru, while S2 is more like 50/50. So I end up with more boring Umaru and less fun Umaru. Sure she's maturing, but she's becoming more boring as a results.

I enjoyed season 1 and I'm enjoying season 2, but in a different way. I don't think I like one season more over the other. Bratty characters don't always work for me, but I fell under Umaru's spell and revelled in her brattiness. But I am also enjoying seeing her "good" version hanging out with friends.

I was the other way, I got sick of it being 70-80% in s1.

DESU WA~~ lol I love both seasons evenly. I don't watch much anime as it airs anymore (since I have a huge backlog from years past), but the Umaru seasons pull be in and I almost guarantee and expect laugh at each episode I watch. I was so happy when a season 2 was announced. It does not disappoint. I can't wait for this week's episode! xD

I relate a lot to this article, the first season was honestly borderline unwatchable for me but my curiosity got me through. Umaru's character was just a little too much and the lack of self-awareness and depth in the sidecharacters and the relationships left me somewhat uninterested. I also found the over the top lazyness more frustrating than funny, it started in a relatable place but always went too far and the jokes just became unfunny to me. But thanks to the appearance of selfawareness and 'some depth', it makes these moments of flagrant selfishness and lazyness kind of endearing and actually funny from time to time. It actually makes me enjoy this second season quite a bit, which is probably one of the biggest surprises this season for me.

Quote: | She often mistreated her friends through these personas, only her brother knew the true Umaru underneath these facades, and that was kinda the joke. |
... did we watch the same anime? I barely saw any mistreating, but instead I saw a lot of guilt and fear in Umaru (with a side of inner "please leave me alone") which slowly led to what this season is about, rather than Umaru just waking up on S1 ep1 and doing a 180º all of a sudden.
Umaru's development during those first 12 episodes was slow but it wasn't non-existant. And she wasn't really that much of an asshole (to those who weren't her brother).
