They wouldn't do 4D widely in North America because of environmental sensitivity complaints. There are reasons why "Smell-a-vision" never caught on just like they don't sell microwave popcorn in hospitals. People already get sick from the 3-D effect (which doesn't impress me; it's the same lousy, fake stuff I saw as a kid just done digitally now; they're glorified pop-up books on film -- so what?).

They did experiments with mists of water, joybuzzers under seats and so on during the 1950s at the same time they had the first great wave of 3-D films. It was a fad that never came back except for theme park attractions. They used to have a "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" attraction at one of the Disney theme parks in Orlando (Disney Studios or Epcot? I forget which!) and they misted people to simulate them getting licked by a giant dog in 3-D.

Meh, I say.

3-D itself works on and off -- better in small doses than trying to do 80-110 minutes sustained. 3-D has never made a bad film great but there are plenty of great "flat films." The flat films have always looked truer to life than any 3-D film I've seen.

Well, this is the first I've heard of films being "4-D," and looking it up, it sounds entirely undesirable. Why on earth would I want my seat moved around during a film? I just want to watch the film. 3-D is already enough of a terrible gimmick. But apparently, they think that they need to come up with stuff other than good movies to get people to watch movies.
