This is sad, although I guess inevitable.

Too bad Detective Conan is too long for anyone else to release it even subbed only, but at least its all on Crunchyroll.

To be honest I thought they dropped it ages ago I guess not hmm

Did Funimation not inform Crunchyroll their license for Case Closed would be expiring so soon? The Funimation episodes were only up for a few months.

Conan deserved better. Unfortunately, it was too violent for regular Cartoon Network (where it belonged) and was subject to a smear campaign by misinformed fans.

On the one hand, yes, this is really upsetting news, but on the other it brings possible hope for CR to do something with this, or even Discotek to get the movies. At this point I can only hope something happens.

Not really surprised they really haven't done anything with Case Closed in years

This wasn't even true when the episodes from Funi were still there. There were 600 some episodes that were never licensed in the US even then. I had been hoping that hole would be filled, but instead it has gotten wider *sigh*

Wow, just the other day, I was randomly curious if Case Closed was on iTunes, because I thought that might be a better way to collect the series as opposed t getting the DVDs. It was, but I just checked and they're gone.

Really wish they could give us some warning :/

Huh? I remember just how out of place CC was on Adult Swim back in the day, but I never heard anything about this.

Crunchyroll gets their streaming license for Detective Conan directly from TMS themselves. So this doesn't affect CR at all.

For episodes 754 and on, that is correct. However, per CR's Detective Conan show page, episodes 1-130 are no longer available due to licensing issues, which are the episodes that Funi had licensed, which just expired.

While I don't how it will be on there, the dub and sub versions of "Kenichi" are still on Hulu. Hopefully, a few more months.

I own all 5 seasons they released, plus the first two movies, but it's still a shame (maybe I should get on the rest of the films they released). Honestly, while I want to see how the series ends, 130 episodes is about all I needed anyway.

Detective Conan has been the one series I’ve managed to keep up with pretty well over all the years. The license expiring was bound to happen but, still feels like an era is passing. While I think there were some things about the English adaptation that were fair for people to take issue with, Funimation still released a lot of episodes. 5 seasons plus several movies is a lot even if it’s a fraction of Conan.

Case Closed wasn't out of place on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim Action. But I do think people didn't like the whole trying to Americanize the names. The series was way to long for something that could have been solved in a 100 episodes or at the most 150. I also remember the DVDs being released weird where you got the episodes that Adult Swim didn't show 1st and then going back to the beginning like as if the DVDs were meant for the people who did watch it on Adult Swim. I was 1 of the people who did watch it but still not great marketing for those who didn't.

It's sad to see Funimation lose Detective Conan, but as the series never became popular over here it's no surprise that they didn't renew their license. I still remember watching the anime for the first time on the Funimation channel when I was twelve. While I haven't watched Detective Conan since I was fourteen, If it wasn't for Funimation airing it on their channel I probably would have never discovered the show due to its lack of popularity in the west. At least we still have the manga.
