Glad to hear it sounds like a proper sequel. The first film was quite excellent - one of my favorites last year - and I would love to see the characters grow even more.

Glad to see some people agreed. Those who had seen the original liked it, but everyone else probably couldn't look beyond the low budget and Blender Studio graphics.

So much for the people who hoped Hasbro was 'saving' Power Rangers. Laughing

The Lionsgate producers hadn't given up their dream of a "sequel", so the project was still legally around in memos.

Hasbro bought the Rangers property since the future of Paramount's Hasbro Cinematic Universe is clearly not going to the Transformers from here on in (any way you look at it, the Bumblebee movie's either going to be a finale or a stand-alone), but it was easier to just buy up an old Power Rangers project than to go through the whole legal negotiations of canceling it.
At least we have some reasonable assurance it's not going to LOOK like the previous Lionsgate movie, if that's what we're all worried about. (And I think we all know which mistake they're not going to make this time, in the all-out interest of box-office...)

That's great news. I really enjoyed the first film and if they had more traditional-looking costumes it would have been perfect.

Hasbro and Paramount are rebooting the Transformers film series after The Last Knight did $650 million on a $250 million budget. With that in mind, we're supposed to believe they're fine with a sequel to a $100 million movie that did $140 million?

Yeah, okay there. Rolling Eyes

Almost certainly a misinterpreted quote about making a new, unrelated movie.

Very surprising. Whilst the first was't terrible, it certainly wasn't good...well the first hour and a half anyway, the last 25 mins was quite fun. If they can make another focused on that i might see it. More of the 1 and half teen drama slog...no thanks.

This is great news. I absolutely loved the movie (despite its handful of glaring flaws) and I honestly wasn't expecting a sequel to happen, especially with the rights transfer. Hearing that it will legitimately made my day.

I liked Kung Fu Breakfast Club, but hopefully the sequel has more action.

2017 did disgustlingly well with regards to merch however, which Hasbro might care for more. Last Knight caused a reboot because of how big of a drop it had even going from AoE. That was an utterly massive drop.

Wouldn't be surprised if PR2017 had did something like Pacific Rim where the theatrical wasn't that good but home video was where a lot of it came from. Also, streaming, etc.

Power Rangers also came out on the same weekend as Beauty and the Beast which was a poor decision on Lionsgate's part. Outside of Krispy Kreme, there wasn't much merchandise promotion for the movie either and Bandai's toys for the film were poorly designed. But most fans who saw the movie generally liked it and it did seem to do well on Blu Ray/DVD sales.

I am hoping for a rebooted Transformers that gets away from the Michael Bay designs. My ideal reboot would have designs similar to G1 but with Beast Wars level writing.

I wonder if they won't eventually try a cinematic universe which ties together Transformers, GI Joe and Power Rangers. At the very least they should reboot Transformers and GI Joe and set them in the same universe.

Think it's about time I give this film a proper look-see. I felt a little too unfair on this one, giving it flack without even giving it a shot. From what I've heard it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Let me be my own judge.
