That company doesn't have a leg to stand on, Battle Angel Alita was out before there trademark. This lawsuit is a waste of time and money, I don't know what they hoping to get.

Highly doubt this will go anywhere. I cant remember the exact date but this adaption was announced in 2003 or so. Its just been stuck with development issues for several years and never gotten around to being made.

I tried to look up the company in question and the merchandise it mentions. Couldn't find any of it. If anything, it seems that this company would benefit from people mistaking their products as somehow being related to the Alita: Battle Angel film.
But something stupid/silly and Florida makes sense |

Given that Viz started publishing the Battle Angel Alita manga in the US over a decade before this company filed for the "Battle Angel" trademark, it seems like all they're doing is risking getting sued themselves. I'm not sure why they felt suing a giant media company like Fox was a smart idea.

This company did merch ?
Let alone for this franchise or even has a legitimate buisness claim to working with Viz or the Author for use of their Intellectual Property ? Like i'm gonna be real here never seen anything from them and this entire thing seems like an attempt (illegally) to cash in on squatting. It's gonna be quite ironic when fox acquires them as recourse for recovering the legal fees. We might actually see them produce merch after that. |

Is this gonna be like the whole "Avatar" title debacle? Where you had Avatar: The Last Airbender (from 2005-08) then in 2009 came James Cameron's Avatar, that kind of a thing?

To me, this is closer to the King Games/Banner Saga issue than the Avatar issue (which was solved out-of-court anyway).
King Games (Candy Crush) tried copyrighting "Saga" for the use of video game titles, then sued Banner Saga for using the word in their title (despite the fact that they filed their copyright before King Games did). Didn't hear how it turned out, but considering that we got Banner Saga 2 and 3, with no name change, either it got dropped or they lost. I see the same thing happening here. Unless they have a movie named Battle Angel (which would lead to Avatar-like situation), this is a same-name adaptation of a previously existing property, that had (presumably) been trademarked. Although, it does beg the question: this movie has been known about for a while, and advertised for at least a year. Why wait until now? |

Considering the title in Japan is, "GUNNM" that's a weird point to make about a trademark dispute over the title of the series that was used in the US and for the movie.
This is probably more about them wanting to protect their trademark. They've had it for nine years and Fox/Viz haven't bothered doing anything about it so it's more likely they settle and let them use continue to use it. |

It's still a title used for the actual work over here. The point is that this company is crawling out of the woodwork for the Hollywood version as if it's new. |
