"Star Blazers: The Bolar Wars / Space Battleship Yamato III": anime#1200 is technically set in 2205 so you now know which one this is likely remaking. Only the Final Yamato film remains in the original continuity after this one is done but Leiji Matsumoto and continuity don´t get along at all.

I'm mostly going by the sub title for this series A New Journey, which might suggest A New Voyage or Be Forever who knows or like you said this might be the Bolar wars as well

Awesome news!! Hopefully this will follow the others in having 7 films/26 episodes. Yamato 2202 was one of the best series I've seen in a while.

With the date set in 2205, I also presume this will be the Bolar War, but they could certainly fit in New Voyage and even Be Forever by having the Yamato travel to Iscandar to fight the Black Nebula empire and add Sasha to the crew - so essentially condense both movies into, say the first four episodes, then move on to the Bolar Wars arc proper for the remaining 22, preferably with Sasha continuing on with the crew (spoiler[her death in Be Forever annoyed me]).
