Highest opening weekend for a Funimation release, likely for any anime release in NA, is pretty much guaranteed at this point. Record Slayer is back.

It's not going to break the first Pokemon movie's $31 million opening weekend, barring something very unexpected happening.

making money as a R rated animated movie, let alone being anime, is impressive.

This is damn impressive. To be fair though, its main competition (Mortal Kombat 2021) can be viewed at home on HBO Max. That's gotta be eating into a large chunk of potential moviegoers.

Beating Mortal Kombat with less screenings is highly impressive! Can't imagine the numbers it would've done with no Covid restrictions.

According to the latest news, Mortal Combat is now winning. Kind of surprising that they are actually comparing the two movies. Seems a bit unfair.

A great achievement, especially considering that it is shown in fewer theaters and that Funi's advertising spending for the film is undoubtedly nothing next to what New Line have spent on Mortal Combat.

Here in Mexico it is on its way to debut at the top of the weekend box office.
