Its kind of weird to have cancelled the manga last week due to the Mangakas illness, but apparently he had already died at the time of that announcement? Weird stuff.

Prayers are with the family, though.

Japan has very strict privacy laws which is mostly the reason why it takes a while for a death to be announced to the public.

always impressed cancer patients in media continue to do their work until the very end, am always in belief that maintaining some semblance of normalcy helps them escape their disease for the tiniest bit. Rest in piece.

In Japan, death of well known people is usually not announced until a few weeks after their death, probably so families can properly mourn their loved one (and not have to deal with stuff like noisy journalists).

Do they not have any kind of investigative media, though? Here in the West, any kind of celebrity breaking news is reported almost instantly by the TMZs and different verified Twitter people, way before official announcements are ever made.

Sure, but while no slight is intended towards Kayaharuka, they were hardly a celebrity. The laws would still apply, though. And the announcement would still be made, since while they might not have been well-known to the masses, they were still important to their readers and colleagues.

West or U.S? Please keep in mind some other western countries have similar privacy laws just like Japan, and, what is common in the U.S. is not so much outside of it.
