October 2022: Japan
December 2022 to Q1 2023: Rest of the world

I enjoyed the first movie even though some parts were a rehash, so if the second improves on what the first delivered I'll be more than happy.

Is Mito going to show up? Or will they add another OC character (probably a girl)?

It's hard to look forward to the second film of the Sword Art Online, Progressive Series. If you are a fan like me, you have seen and read everything published and transmitted.
2022 is the year Aincrad and the Sword Art Online "Death Game" got started.
Reki Kawahara won an author award for this series way back in 2012. The orginal SAO light novel left a lot of plot holes and questions (especially when it skips from the first floor to about the 11th and then the 27th floor).
November 6, 2022 was the day this death game started, and now it was nearing the end of
October 2024. Even today, after almost two years, not a single message had come through
from the other side, let alone any signs of help. All we could do was live and walk, step by
step, towards the top

This november 6th. is the tenth anniversary date and the actual date that the game got started.
The only problems I see, is that I feel there is a lack of real promotion of the Progressive Films, the whole SAO series (as a whole) and then the lack of cohesion and congruity with the SAO orginal light novel, the progressive series light novel and the Progressive Films. The first Progressive Film was "Asuna centered" and even created another girl character to adventure with her. In the SAO LN, Kirito "saves" and "protects" Asuna and helps her to become one of the strongest player users in Aincrad. The Progressive LN does not match the SAO LN or the Progressive film.
I do not know if the films were created to attract new fans, or maybe just to make more money. The soundtrack of Aria of a Starless Night (first film) was not as good as the previous music soundtracks. (No ReOna, no Lisa, etc. singers signed to Sony Music).
I think that the author and producers for the Progressive Anime prefer Films to anime episodes because Progressive has been published irregularly (2 hiatuses of 3 years and only 8 volumes in 10 years).
So the second film Scherzo of a Dark Dusk, should cover the second volume of the Progressive series, then the third and fourth films should cover the 3-6 floors and then the fourth film the Dark Elf arc (Keys that supposedly go up to the 9 floor.)
In the rest of the world Aria of Starless Night was available in movie theaters on March 10, almost 8 months later than their original release. Because of this long and slow world release, there is a feeling that there is little or no promotion for this light novel anime series.

Good to know, but I'd also like to see an announcement on when the first movie is going to be available streaming and/or on BR. Only the subbed version screen in my area, so I'd love to rewatch it in dubbed form.

You're conflating the soundtrack with the theme song here. The soundtrack to the film is handled by Yuki Kajiura as most other SAO projects were. I own the standalone soundtrack for the film and the quality of the music is on par with Kajiura's compositions for other SAO projects, even if it's not terribly inventive. Not to mention, LiSA did provide a new theme song for the film, Yuke, which also played during the ending credits of the film. So your second point is moot.

Enjoyed the first one. Has pretty good visuals but felt a bit too short. I wonder if the release gap will be 1 month like last time.

I'll agree to disagree with your comments. I know that Kaiiura Yuki did the "soundtrack" for the movie, but did not arrange or write any new songs for this Progressive Series. And by songs (because it seems that I need to be specific) I mean pieces of music with words. I've heard Hoshi naki Yoru no Aria (soundtrack by Kaiiura) and he just orchestrated and added some opera choruses to the original SAO theme. Lisa sang the Aria of a starless night song, but it has less that 250 views, while her "Gurenge" song for the Demon Slayer movie of 2020 was even at the top of the music charts in Japan and has 90+ 121+ million views depending on the version you look for.

Progressive does not have enough material (light novel volumes) to have it's own series like the other SAO series anime. 8 Volumes in 10 years (4 volumes are 2 parters 4-5 and 7-8) (In other words, 4-5 are one volume cut into two, and same thing again 7-8 one volume cut into two.)

The reason of my comment is that I feel the author and his team are not doing a good enough job in writing, promoting, publishing and improving the franchise. I hope that they get a lot better because it is very frustrating for the fans.
So nothing is as moot as you paint it to be.

You do realize that it is super rare for a series to cover 8 volumes even in a 2 cour series right? SAO in particular only covers around 4 volumes for 2 cour.

They are doing a movie format precisely because they do not have enough material ready from the Progressive Light novel series. Volume 1 was floor 1, Volume 2, Floor 2, Volume 3, Floor 3, Volume 4 Floor 4 and then Floor 5 was split into Volume 5 and Volume 6. Then Volume 7-8 are about Floor 7 (casino addiction floor). If you split the eight volumes into 4 movies, then Second movie would take care of floors 3-4-5, then Dark Elf Keys quest could be the 4th movie while the casino, puzzle, swimming, caves, etc. would become the third film. Kawahara has taken 3 years twice to make a volume split into two. (5-6 and 7-8) that is why in 10 years 2012-2022 there have only been 8 Progressive light novel series volumes.
In SAO original anime/light novel series, the beta testers reached the 6th floor. In Progressive according to Kirito they passed the Casino Floor (7th Floor) on the Progressive Series Filmes, who knows, because none of the other LN, Manga, Anime and Progressive LN, Manga, have had cohesion and coincides with the information and the dates....

I liked the first anime, and it was a huge success and was well-received by fans of the franchise. Like any other sword art fan, I was eagerly awaiting the release of the second Sword Art Online Progressive anime film. The story for the second sword art online anime film sword art online progressive volume 2 is that Kirito, Asuna, and their friends are back in Aincrad, but they're stuck on the 75th floor this time. The trailer for the sword art online progressive movie 2 promises more intense sword fighting and action sequences. The highly anticipated second sword art online progressive anime film will be released this fall. The film will again focus on the character Asuna as she tries to clear the sword art online game. With new challenges and dangers to face, Sword Encyclopedia predicts the film sure to be a hit with franchise fans.

You are confusing the soundtrack with the music theme in the casino online. This movie soundtrack is handled by Yuki Kajiura, like most other SAO projects. I have a separate casino soundtrack, and the quality of the music is as good as Kajiura's compositions for other SAO projects. You can listen to it here. Even if it's not very inventive. Not to mention that Lisa provided a new music theme for the film, Yuke, which also played in the film's closing credits. So your second point is moot.
