The anime was scheduled to be split 2-cour before it even aired, and I've still seen plenty of cases where anime that are rather unpopular were announced to be 2-cour before the broadcast whether consecutive or split cour.

Reminds me of the travesty that was Platinum End. Such a shame that the resources are wasted on this. All of the high school students look like middle schoolers. I’ve never understood why creators think that immature children should try to become a god when they have very little life experience to do the job. They’d be better off going with late twenties to early thirties characters. Looking at the ratings it seems this show doesn’t resonate much with viewers.

That's really weird take. Why would you think creator think children "should" become a god? Also there is nothing wrong with having kids as the main characters instead of adults - Sure, I like anime with adult cast, but many of the top anime series have cast full of minors.

The reason show isn't popular is CGI 3D graphics, not school student characters. And since it's 3D CGI, resources are hardly "wasted" on it - it was cheap to produce and people who stick with the series mostly liked it.
