Hm... maybe I haven't seen enough old horror movies, or read enough scary/horror novels/manga, but I found this story to be really freaky. I also found the ending to be in line with most Japanese horror tales, in which, you don't win. Ever. That's the way they work. And while the story did get a bit confusing towards the latter half, the artwork was excellent and really gave me shivers while reading it. I think it took me three days to get through all of it. Then again, I live on my own, and do most of my reading at night, which lends a different atmosphere to a horror story than reading with a bunch of people around, during the daytime...

Sounds like a hybrid of the Ring and Stay Alive, like them this story failed to be scary.

When you say 'The Ring', do you refer to the original 'Ring' or to the crappy American remake?

Ring was one of the best horrors I've seen ever, although it didn't creep me out in the way I'd hoped it would.
That's what I get for watching Halloween and the Alien films as a child. Wink

Both versions of Ring are horrid >_>

Same goes for Halloween. And the only good Alien movie was Aliens <_<

Anyways, seeing how this is yet another negative review for a horror manga, would anyone have any recommendations for something that's actually scary without being overly grotesque?

Dang. If only I had waited to read the review before buying this one. At least it wasn't a complete waste... I guess. Most horror manga I've read aren't all that scary; the same is true with anime, but a few movies have gotten to me. Certainly not The Ring, either version. But some do truly gross me out.

Anyway, that's why I'm looking for some really good ones, in manga form. I'll get there eventually. Already have a few titles to look up...
