I wonder if this might be them trying to set up interest to make a new remake or sequel adaptation to the original series. I think it would be cool to see it again. Especially considering the isekai element that it brings as this is probably the oldest series i can think of that has a lot of elements that eventually became that genre in anime,.

Either a remake, a pachinko machine or new Dunpra models, But I love to see Dunbine with actual animation, one where the insectoid wings of the Aura Battlers actually move, for example.
Also, not only it says "isekai" (another world) in the narration, it's one of the first anime series (there were some shojo stories if I am not mistaken) with a character from this world travelling via road crash (sort of) to this world. If anything, the rest of the series copied Dunbine. |

The other day I was just talking about the excitement animated teases can create even if a major production isn’t in the immediate pipeline. And here we are, because this makes me want to see a Dunbine remake of some sort, especially with the ubiquity of isekai.

Given that the isekai genre has seem much mainstream popularity for the last few years, it would be nice to see Aura Battler Dunbine to get either a sequel or a remake. I would also like the original series to get more love from isekai/SAO fans given that it's been dangerously ignored by the same isekai fanbase. And don't give me the "it's too old or retro" excuse, there are people that still watch the 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam and I know there's a young retro anime fanbase that does exist out there. |

Like others have said I REALLY hope they're using this to gauge interest on a full remake. The original show is a favorite of mine but is a little hard on the eyes in 2024. The story though, holds up extremely well - it was a little bit of isekai Game of Thrones before its time. Seeing this scene of Shou being transported back to Tokyo and having to face his parents is something that feels extremely modern, despite this being a 30 year old series.
The world of Byston Well was so interesting, I think people would really dig it. Especially if they keep the character designs looking retro as they do here. I'm usually not a huge fan of the robots being CG but there's some nice cel shading here that's working really well. Dunbine has never been as popular as its contemporaries (especially Macross), but it deserves its flowers imo. |

Dunbine is a perfect case of being ahead of its time and the market conditions not being right. And Tomino lacking full control. A flawed show but the ideas are fully there to work full force in a remake. Tomino also wrote an extremely edgy parallel story though what now became light novels that is basically unadaptable but combining it with the show could work.

10000% agree. It's wild how many ideas in Dunbine were completely lifted for other franchises (Escaflowne, Rayearth, etc) Also, small update but the video has amassed a surprising 500k views in only one day. The original theme song singer MIO even commented, surprising everyone. |
