PS4 Console Shipments Exceed 100 Million Units Worldwide

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

On Tuesday, Sony revealed in its consolidated financial results for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2019 (April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020) that it shipped 3.2 million PlayStation 4 units during the quarter ending on June 30, bringing its worldwide total to more than 100 million units.

While the 3.2 million units shipped remains around the same amount of units shipped over the same time period in the previous fiscal year, it was slightly below the company's expectations, and it has revised its 16 million unit forecast for total units for the fiscal year lower to 15 million units. Sony predicts it will have shipped 111.8 million units by the end of the fiscal year 2019.

The PlayStation 4 console first launched in the U.S. and Canada in November 2013 and in Japan in February 2014.

The Wall Street Journal tech reporter Takashi Mochizuki reported in April earlier this year that Sony's next-generation console will not launch within the next 12 months.
