Trivia:
The opening of this film is almost a shot-for-shot remake of the opening scene of the second Urusei Yatsura film, substituting the Urusei Yatsura characters with the Ranma 1/2 characters.
Toma and his animal guards are based on a Japanese folklore hero Momotarō. He was born from a peach and went on a journey to fight some Oni while meeting a talking dog, monkey and pheasant along the way.
The golden circlet on Sarutoru's head suggests that he is based on Sun Wukong, the Monkey King.
Torristan could be based on the manga exclusive character Mint, who is also a half-animal hybrid who utilizes throwing knives as his primary weapons.
