Capcom's Sengoku Basara Gets All-Female Takarazuka Musical

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
1st stage musical of warring-states video game premieres next summer

CAPCOM's historical action game franchise Sengoku Basara is inspiring its first stage musical adaptation from the famous all-female Takarazuka Revue Company. The games are loosely based around the historical figures from the warring-states period of feudal Japan. The Sengoku Basara official website updated with the news on Friday, after accidentally posting a headline revealing the upcoming news on Wednesday.

Actresses Tomu Ranju and Hana Ranno will star in the lead roles. Kei Suzuki (Ace Attorney musicals) is both writing and directing the musical, which will run at the Tōkyū Theatre Orb from June 15 to July 1, 2013.

CAPCOM's Sengoku Basara games have sold 3.2 million copies since 2005. They inspired the Sengoku Basara - Samurai Kings, Sengoku Basara: Samurai Kings 2, and Sengoku Basara - Samurai Kings: The Movie anime adaptations. A live-action series starring GACKT premiered on July 12 on MBS, and is spawning two compilation films this month.

Thanks to Wysandra for the tip.
