Ranma ½ Fans Celebrate Anime's 30th Anniversary

posted on by Kim Morrissy

The anime adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi's classic martial arts comedy manga Ranma ½'s first aired in Japan on April 15, 1989. To celebrate the anime's 30th anniversary, fans on Twitter posted fanart, cosplay, and heartfelt messages.

One fan posted a video showing the voice actor cast 30 years ago. Many of the comments noted that Ranma ½ had an incredibly star-studded cast, including Kappei Yamaguchi as Ranma, Megumi Hayashibara as the female Ranma, the late Hiromi Tsuru as Ukyou, and Kikuko Inoue as Kasumi.

The tweet even caught famed voice actor Jouji Nakata's attention, who wrote in a tweet that just yesterday Noriko Hidaka, Kikuko Inoue, and Honoka Inoue had sung the Ranma ½ song Heart Naisho/2 (Two-Part Secret Heart) for him.

The Ranma ½ manga was serialized in the Weekly Shōnen Sunday magazine from September 1987 to March 1996. It has spawned several TV series, movies, and OVAs, and is regarded as a classic comedy series today. Rumiko Takahashi will launch her next manga this spring.
