Video: BBC Parodies Pokemon Go! With Yokai

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Animated parody video by the children's series Horrible Histories

The long-running BBC children's series Horrible Histories has posted the above animated sketch on YouTube, which envisions a Pokémon! Go style game with traditional Japanese yokai monsters, called "Historical Pokymonsters! Run!"

Following the remit of the series, the sketch aims to educate children using humour, telling them about mythical Japanese creatures such as Gashadokoru, the giant skeleton spirits; Futakuchi-onna, the women who have second mouths on the back of their heads; Jubbokko, the bloodsucking trees; Karakasa-kozo, the umbrella yokai; Bake-danuki, the magical tanuki; and Nurikabe, the wall monster.

Horrible Histories has run since 2009 on the BBC's children's channel, CBBC, based on the bestselling books by Terry Deary.

Grateful thanks to Ian Wolf for the tip.
