The Madhouse animation studio has revealed a new anime series based on the Shinzō Ningen Casshan science-fiction classic on Thursday, the first day of Tokyo International Anime Fair 2008. The original anime series from Tatsunoko Production recounted the story of Casshan, a cyborg who rises against the robotic armies that have subjugated all of humanity. The series, tenatively titled just Casshern, is scheduled for this fall. Shigeyasu Yamauchi (Saint Seiya, Boys Over Flowers, Dragon Ball Z movies) will direct, and Yoshihiko Umakoshi (Berserk, Mushi-Shi, Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor) will design the characters. Yasuko Kobayashi (Claymore, Witchblade, Shakugan no Shana) will supervise the scripts.

Streamline Pictures and ADV Films both released the 1993 Casshan: Robot Hunter animated video remake in North America, and Go Fish Pictures released Kazuaki Kiriya's 2004 live-action movie remake.
