Detective Conan Solves His First Case in Korea

posted on by Egan Loo

TMS Entertainment, Ltd. one of the leading producers of Japanese animation has released the animated Detective Conan theatrical film, “Phantom of Baker Street,” on May 1st in Korea.

This is the first ever theatrical animation film release of the Detective Conan series in Korea, and the film will be shown on 25 Lotte Cinema screens, the largest theater chain in Korea with ONMEDIA as the distributor.

When it was released in Japan in 2002, Detective Conan's “Phantom of Baker Street” achieved total box-office revenues of $33 million. Thus, the release in Korea was widely anticipated not only by anime fans but also by the Korean Media.

By using the same voice actors for this film as those used for the TV Series, TMS is hoping to appeal to the fans of the Detective Conan TV shows and to everyone else, thus positioning itself for a successful release not only for this film but for all future Detective Conan theatrical films to come.

In Japan, Detective Conan's 12th theatrical film, “Full Score of Fear,” was released on April 19 and has been number one at the Japanese box office for two consecutive weeks.

According to division head Satoji Yoshida, “TMS, will work aggressively to achieve additional theatrical releases of the “Detective Conanfranchise world wide.”
