The official website for the Tensai Bakavon ~Yomigaeru Flanders no Inu~ (Tensai Bakavon~The Resurrection of The Dog of Flanders) began streaming a teaser trailer for the anime film on Friday. The film will be the first full-length anime film project for Tensai Bakabon, Fujio Akatsuka's comedy manga about an idiotic boy and his father. (The film's title is deliberately spelled different from the manga's title.)
The film's story will start from the last scene of Nippon Animation's classic anime The Dog of Flanders, as the orphan Nello and his dog Patrash decide to take revenge instead of going to heaven. Nello and Patrash now orchestrates a shadowy organization, and Bakabon's family decides to confront them to save the world.
The film will open next spring. The staff of the anime includes:
Director, Script: FROGMAN
Cast: FROGMAN and others
Animation Production: DLE
Animation Production in Cooperation With: Fujio Pro、Studio Pierrot、Nippon Animation
Production: Tensai Bakavon Production Committee
Distribution: T-Joy
Akatsuka launched the Tensai Bakabon manga series in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 1967, and the manga already inspired four television anime series between 1971 and 2000. Akatsuka died in 2008 due to esophageal cancer. His life inspired a biographical film in 2011. The new anime film will mark the 80th anniversary of Akatsuka's birth next year.
