Dragon Quest Creator: Many Unannounced 30th Anniversary Projects Coming
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
On Square Enix's official website for the Dragon Quest X online role-playing game, creator Yuji Horii wrote a New Year's message last Wednesday that hinted at unannounced projects related to the franchise's 30th anniversary next year.
A portion of his message reads:
"We will release Dragon Quest Heroes in February, and Theathrhythm Dragon Quest in March. In addition, we haven't announced them yet, but there are a bunch of projects as we head towards the 30th anniversary."
Horii also mentions that Square Enix will release version 3 of the massive multiplayer online role-playing game Dragon Quest X this spring.
Dragon Quest began as a role-playing game created by Yuji Horii, published by Enix, and released on the Famicom (Nintendo Entertainment System) in 1986. It has since spawned a franchise that consists of multiple sequels, spinoff games, novels, manga, and two anime series that each ran for over 40 episodes. The franchise is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the first game's release next year. The latest game in the series is Dragon Quest X, an online role-playing game for the Wii U, and two spinoffs, Dragon Quest Heroes (a hack-and-slash for the PS3 and PS4), and Theathrhythm Dragon Quest (a rhythm game for the 3DS) are debuting in Japan on February 26 and March 26, respectively.
