Akame ga KILL!
Tatsumi is a well-intentioned country bumpkin with a talent for fighting who leaves his remote village to save it by raising money in the Imperial City. However when he arrives Tatsumi quickly discovers that the Imperial City is filled with unimaginable amounts of corruption and ends up losing everything including his friends. Now in order to accomplish his original mission and protect his village he joins up with the group of assassins known as Night Raid who aim to remove the corrupt regime that governs the country.
Based on the manga by Takahiro with art by Tetsuya Tashiro, Akame ga KILL! was directed by Tomoki Kobayashi (Tears to Tiara, sola) at Studio White Fox (The Devil Is a Part-Timer!). Makoto Uezu (Danganronpa The Animation, Qwaser of Stigmata) was in charge of the series scripts with original creator Takahiro supervising the scenario. Kazuhisa Nakamura ( Jormungand) designed the characters and Taku Iwasaki ( Black Butler, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Gatchaman Crowds) composed the music.
The 24 episode series premiered on Tokyo MX on the 6th of July, Sentai Filmworks licensed the series in North America and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan.
Akame ga KILL! began as a manga in Square Enix's Monthly Gangan Joker magazine in 2010 and the 11th compiled volume of the manga shipped in December 2014. Takahiro launched the Akame ga KILL! ZERO prequel with artist Kei Toru in Square Enix's Big Gangan magazine in October 2013. Yen Press announced that it will release the original manga in North America and the first volume will be released this January.
You can view all the character designs for the series here and read along episode by episode of the series with ANN's own Theron Martin here.
Hanabee will be releasing Akame ga KILL! on Blu-ray and DVD at some point in the near future.
