Keitaro Motonaga is returning to direct the film off of Hideki Shirane's screenplay at Production IMS. Satoshi Ishino and Koji Watanabe are also returning to adapt Tsunako's original character illustrations for animation, and Watanabe is also serving as chief animation director.

The returning cast includes:

Additionally, Sora Amamiya will play Mayuri.

The film will open in Japan on August 22, and advanced tickets went on sale on April 10.

A pair of "Date tickets" will come with a special Gekijōban Date A Live: Mayuri Judgment Movie Guide Booklet. The pamphlet will include a prologue short story by original author Koushi Tachibana, rough sketches of Mayuri by Tsunako, a character relationship chart, summaries of the two television anime seasons, a profile of Tengū City, and a "peek" at the film's storyboards. Those who purchase advanced tickets will also receive a paper ticket and a movie ticket card featuring illustrations of Mayuri.

The teaser trailer also revealed that Kadokawa will release a director's cut Blu-ray Disc box set of the first season on July 31. The set will include the 12-episode series plus the unaired 13th episode, and will also include longer director's cut editions of the episodes. The set will retail for 28,000 yen (about US$233).

The anime based on Koushi Tachibana's original light novel series centers on an ordinary high school boy named Shidō Itsuka who meets a spirit girl who has been rejected by a devastated world. The girl, whom Shidō names "Tohka," happens to have wiped out much of humanity 30 years ago, and now she is back. The only way to stop her is to date her.

Funimation streamed the first and second TV anime seasons in North America as they aired in Japan, and released the series on a dual-audio Blu-ray/DVD combo pack in June 2014.
