Shonen Maid Anime Reveals April 7 Debut, More Cast

posted on by Karen Ressler

The official website for the television anime of Ototachibana's Shōnen Maid manga updated with the premiere date and four additional cast members on Thursday. The series will premiere on TBS on Thursday, April 7 at 1:58 a.m. (effectively Friday morning). It will also air on CBC, Sun TV, and BS-TBS.

The new cast members are:

Yui Makino (Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches' Meiko Ōtsuka) as Miyako Ōtori, Madoka's ex-fiancée

Mitsuki Saiga (.hack//SIGN's Tsukasa) as Yūji Hino, Chihiro's close friend

Yukari Tamura (Naruto's Tenten) as Chiyo Komiya, Chihiro's mother

Yoshiko Sakakibara will play Kazusa Takatori, Chiyo and Madoka's mother (not pictured).

The staff also unveiled a new key visual:

The previously-announced cast includes:

Natsumi Fujiwara as Chihiro Komiya

Nobunaga Shimazaki as Madoka Taketori

Tomoaki Maeno as Keiichirō Shinozaki

Kazutomi Yamamoto as Ibuki, Natsuki Hanae as Ryūji, and Taku Yashiro as Hayato: the members of the in-universe idol group "Uchōten Boys"

The anime will premiere on the TBS and BS-TBS channels in April. A spinoff project starring Uchōten Boys, titled "Uchōten ☆ Nicosei," will premiere its first 30-minute episode on March 14 on Niconico, and regular episodes are slated to begin on April 11.

TBS will hold an event for both the Shōnen Maid and Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto and television anime at the Yūrackuchō Asahi Hall on March 12. The event will screen the first episodes of both series, and will hold a talk show with the casts and directors for both series.

The manga revolves around Chihiro Komiya, an energetic elementary school student who was living with his mom. Chihiro is very good at doing housework and chores, and his mother's motto is "No work, no food." After his mother suddenly dies, a man named Madoka Taketori who claims to be his uncle shows up, and asks Chihiro to come live with him. Chihiro initially refuses, but when seeing the horribly dirty state of Madoka's rich home, he decides to start cleaning it. Then Madoka makes another offer to Chihiro: that he comes to live with him, but in exchange Chihiro will do the housework. Chihiro accepts this deal, but suddenly finds himself in a maid uniform.

Yūsuke Yamamoto (Welcome to the NHK, Sgt. Frog, Aquarion Evol) is directing the series at studio 8-Bit. Yoshiko Nakamura (Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun, Super Lovers, Hiiro no Kakera - The Tamayori Princess Saga) is in charge of the series composition, and Kana Ishida (The irregular at magic high school, Aquarion Evol, Wakaba Girl) is adapting the character designs for animation. Tomohiro Yamada is composing the music. Trustick is performing the opening theme song and the Uchōten Boys are performing the ending theme.

Ototachibana launched the series in Enterbrain's Comic B's-LOG magazine in the April 2008 issue, and Kadokawa published the eighth compiled volume in November 2014. A limited edition of the sixth compiled volume had bundled a drama CD in 2013 starring Houko Kuwashima as Chihiro Komiya, Takahiro Mizushima as Madoka Takatori, Yoshimasa Hosoya as Keiichirō Shinozaki, Madoka Yonezawa as Miyako Ōtori, and Yūki Kaji as Yūji Hino.
