1st volume of dark fantasy series ships July 27

Indonesian publisher Elex Media Komputindo announced on Thursday that it has licensed Daisuke Furuya, Takaya Kagami, and Yamato Yamamoto's Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign (Owari no Seraph) dark fantasy manga. The first volume is slated for release on July 27.

The manga's story takes place in a world where an unknown virus has killed the entire human population except for children. Those children were then enslaved by vampires. The manga centers on Yūichirō Hyakuya, a human who dreams of becoming strong enough to kill all vampires. As a 12-year old child, Hyakuya and his friend Mikaela planned to run away from the orphanage. The two almost fail, but Mikaela sacrifices himself so that Hyakuya can escape. Four years later, Hyakuya, now enlisted in the Japanese Imperial Demon Army, swears to destroy all vampires in vengeance.

Furuya, Yamamoto and Kagami launched the dark fantasy manga series in Shueisha's Jump Square magazine in fall 2012. Shueisha published the manga's 11th compiled book volume on May 11. The manga inspired a 12-episode television anime adaptation in April 2015, with the anime's second 12-epsiode part, titled Seraph of the End: Battle in Nagoya, premiering last October.

The manga also inspired the Seraph of the End: Guren Ichinose: Catastrophe at Sixteen and Owari no Seraph: Kyūketsuki Mikaela no Monogatari spinoff novels.
