Kuroko's Basketball Last Game Anime Film Reveals Teaser Visual, Story, Returning Staff

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Film adapting Extra Game sequel manga opens in Japan in spring 2017

The official website for Gekijōban Kuroko no Basuke Last Game (Kuroko's Basketball The Movie: Last Game), the anime film adaptation of Tadatoshi Fujimaki's Kuroko no Basuke Extra Game sequel manga, opened on Saturday to reveal the film's teaser visual. The visual features the five members of the Generation of Miracles plus Kuroko and Kagami wearing Vorpal Swords uniforms. The tagline that accompanies the visual reads, "The formation of the strongest dream team ever!!"

Fuijimaki is credited as chief supervisor on the film, and he is writing an "original episode" for the film. Shunsuke Tada is returning from the three television anime seasons to direct the film at Production I.G. Noboru Takagi is also returning to handle the series composition, Yōko Kikuchi is returning to design the characters, and Yoshihiro Ike is returning from seasons 2 and 3 to compose the music. The cast from the television anime series are also returning to reprise their roles in the film.

The film will open in spring 2017.

The film will be a sequel to the television anime series, taking place after Kuroko and Kagami become second-year students. An American street basketball team called Jabberwock comes to Japan and plays a friendly match with a Japanese team, but after the Japanese team suffers a crushing defeat, the team members of Jabberwock start mocking Japanese basketball. Their comments enrage Riko's father, and so he gathers a team made up of the five members of the Generation of Miracles plus Kuroko and Kagami, called Vorpal Swords, to have a revenge match against Jabberwock.

The Kuroko's Basketball franchise is also getting three compilation films. The first compilation film, titled Kuroko no Basuke Winter Cup Sōshū-hen: Kage to Hikari (Winter Cup Compilation ~Shadow and Light~), is screening in Japan from September 3-16. The second compilation film is titled Winter Cup Sōshū-hen ~Namida no Saki e~ (Winter Cup Compilation ~Beyond the Tears~), and it will screen in Japan from October 8-21. The third film is titled Winter Cup Sōshū-hen ~Tobira no Mukō~ (Winter Cup Compilation ~Crossing the Door~), and it will screen in Japan from December 3-16.
