'your name.' Earns 17.6 Billion Yen, is Now 7th Highest-Grossing Film in Japan

Makoto Shinkai's your name. (Kimi no Na wa.) anime film has earned 17.6 billion yen as of Thursday, 70 days after the film opened in Japan. The film has now surpassed the eighth highest-grossing film (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets at 17.3 billion yen) and the seventh highest-grossing film (Bayside Shakedown 2 at 17.35 billion yen) to become the seventh highest-grossing film of all time in Japan. The film is now also the fourth highest-grossing Japanese film in Japan, and the fourth highest-grossing anime film in Japan. your name. has sold 13,540,000 tickets as of Thursday.

The three highest-grossing Japanese films in Japan include Spirited Away (30.8 billion yen), Howl's Moving Castle (19.6 billion yen) and Princess Mononoke (19.3 billion yen). your name. is projected to possibly approach 20 billion yen (US$200 million).

your name. also opened in Taiwan on October 21 on 46 screens, and has earned 52,909,581 Taiwanese Dollars (about US$1,683,785) as of October 31, becoming the highest-grossing Japanese film in Taiwan. The film topped the Taiwanese box office chart in its opening three-day weekend, becoming the first Japanese film since the 2012 live-action Thermae Romae film to do so.

The film held the top spot at the Japanese box office for nine consecutive weeks since it opened in Japan on August 26. The film ranked at #2 during its 10th weekend, relinquishing the top spot to Death Note Light up the NEW world, which opened on October 29.
