Malaysian publisher Gempak Starz announced on Friday that it has licensed the manga and novel of Makoto Shinkai's Namamu (your name.) film. The publisher will first offer the books exclusively through the Comic Fiesta 2016 event on December 17-18 before a wider release.

Shinkai published the original novel he wrote that inspired his film on June 18, ahead of the film's opening in Japan on August 26. The novel ranked at #1 on Oricon's bunko (trade paperback) book chart for eight weeks in a row, and as of October 16 has sold more than 1 million copies in Japan.

Ranmaru Kotone's (Blood-C, Toki o Kakeru Shōjo: Tokikake manga) manga adaptation runs in Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Alive magazine, and Kadokawa published the manga's first compiled volume on August 23. As of October 16 the manga volume has sold 160,000 copies in Japan.

Purple Plan opened the film in Malaysia on Thursday.

Shinkai's film has earned 20,006,188,400 yen (about US$175.81 million) and sold 15,391,716 tickets as of Tuesday, after 102 days in Japanese theaters.

The film surpassed the 19.6 billion yen earnings of Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle anime film on Sunday, making it the fifth highest-grossing film of all time in Japan, the second highest-grossing Japanese film in Japan, and the second highest-grossing anime film in Japan. The only Japanese film to gross higher is Spirited Away (30.8 billion yen).

The Comic Fiesta 2016 event will take place in Kuala Lumpu at the Putra World Trade Center.
