Gangsta. Anime Resumes Blu-ray/DVD Release in Japan After 16-Month Delay

Volumes 3-6 postponed in wake of studio Manglobe's bankruptcy last year

The official website for the television anime of Kohske's Gangsta. manga announced the release dates for the anime's delayed home video volumes on Wednesday.

The third, fourth, and fifth Blu-ray Disc and DVD volumes are slated for March 24, April 21, and May 26, respectively. The sixth and final Blu-ray Disc/DVD volume will ship on the same day as the anime's Blu-ray Disc box set on June 23.

The first and second volumes had shipped in September and October of last year, but the staff then indefinitely postponed the remaining volumes. Manglobe, the studio that animated the series, had filed for bankruptcy in September of that same year.

The 12-episode anime premiered in July 2015. Funimation streamed the series as it aired with English subtitles, along with an English broadcast dub.

The manga and anime revolves around Nick (played by Kenjiro Tsuda) and Worick (Junichi Suwabe), two men who take on jobs from both the mafia and the police in the town of Ergastulum, a rotten town filled with mafia, hoodlums, prostitutes, and dirty cops.

Shukou Murase (Dante's Inferno: An Animated Epic, Genocidal Organ) directed the anime with series composition by Shinichi Inotsume (Hayate the Combat Butler, The Pilot's Love Song), and Koichi Hatsumi (Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I - The Egg of the King, Deadman Wonderland) is credited as series director. Yōichi Ueda designed the characters for the anime, and Tsutchie (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo) composed the music for the soundtrack.

Kohske launched the original manga in Shinchosha's Monthly Comic @Bunch magazine in 2010, and Shinchosha published the seventh compiled volume in July 2015. The manga has been on hiatus since November 2015. Viz is publishing the series in North America, and released the seventh volume on July 19. Viz also licensed the Gangsta: Cursed spinoff manga, and released the first volume on Tuesday.
