Adventure game with original story ships in Japan on March 23

The official website for 5pb. Games' Re: Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu -Death or Kiss (Re: Life in a different world from zero -Death or Kiss-) adventure game began streaming the game's opening video on Friday. The video previews Konomi Suzuki's opening theme song "yell! ~Kuchibiru Kara Hajimaru Mahō~" (Magic That Begins With the Lips).

The game will have an original story, taking place before the royal election at an event called the "Beauty Queen Election." The story involves the royal election candidates in a beauty contest, where the winner will receive Metia, a treasure that is said to bring fortune. By circumstance, Subaru happens to kiss the prize, which curses him to die unless he receives a "heartfelt kiss" that will break it. Subaru interferes with the tournament to get closer to the candidates in an attempt to prevent his death.

The game will have eight different endings involving Emilia, Ram, Rem, Beatrice, Felt, Priscilla, Anastasia, and Crusch.

The game will ship on March 23 in Japan with a standard edition for 7,500 yen (about US$64), limited edition for 10,500 yen (about US$90), and download edition for 7,000 yen (about US$60). Limited edition copies will come with a soundtrack CD with the opening and ending themes and an SD figure. The PlayStation 4 version's figure will be Ram and the PlayStation Vita version's figure will be Rem. Those who purchase the game early will receive a download code for swimsuit costumes for all the main female characters.

Inori Minase and Rie Murakawa are performing the ending theme song "Dai Dai Daisuki" (Lo Lo Love) as their characters Rem and Ram.

Tappei Nagatsuki launched the Re:Zero story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in 2012, and Kadokawa published the 11th novel in the series on December 23. The light novel series ranked #2 on the 2017 edition of Takarajimasha's Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! (This Light Novel Is Amazing!) guidebook, and was the #4 best-selling light novel series between November 2015 and November 2016. Yen Press released the second light novel volume in English on November 15. Yen Press has also released Daichi Matsuse's two-volume Re:ZERO -Starting Life In Another World- Chapter 1: A Day in the Capital manga adaptation of the series in English, and will release the first volume in Makoto Fugetsu's Re:ZERO -Starting Life In Another World- Chapter 2 manga in May.

A television anime adaptation of the series premiered on April 3. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan under the title Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-. Crunchyroll also streamed both the Re:Zero ~Starting Break Time From Zero~ and Re:PETIT ~Starting Life in Another World from PETIT~ short anime spinoff series.
