Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS features transforming protagonist, VR duels

This year's 12th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is revealing more details and a new visual on Monday for the upcoming sixth anime in the Yu-Gi-Oh! television anime franchise. The new series is titled Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS, and it will feature VR duels.

The new anime will feature characters using leading-edge technology to create a virtual space where they will host VR duels. The show's protagonist is Yūsaku Fujiki (pictured below), and his ace monster is named "Decode Talker," who wields a giant sword. Yūsaku transforms from his school uniform when he enters the VR space for duels. He also has different color hair after he transforms, and he rides on a board while dueling.

The 12th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump is also hinting that the Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V anime is approaching its climax.

Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS will premiere this spring on TV Tokyo. The theme for the new work is "Let's take one step forward and try it!" Yūsaku hates standing out, and at his school he doesn't. However, Yūsaku starts meeting others through duels, and starts moving forward.

The fifth and ongoing anime in the franchise, Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V, premiered in Japan in April 2014. The series premiered on TV in Canada in August 2015, and premiered in the United States on the Nicktoons channel in February 2016. Crunchyroll began streaming the series worldwide outside of Asia in November.
