Kouichi Yamadera reprises Kenshiro for Polygon Pictures production

A teaser promotional video for the new television anime of Buronson, Nobuhiko Horie, and Tetsuo Hara's Souten no Ken (Fist of the Blue Sky) manga debuted on Monday. The video reveals the Fist of the Blue Sky Regenesis anime's lead voice cast member, staff, exclusive Amazon Prime streaming, and April 2018 premiere.

Kouichi Yamadera returns to the lead role of Kenshiro Kasumi, after also starring in the previous Fist of the Blue Sky television anime in 2006.

Akio Kazumi (Ajin episode director) is directing the anime at Polygon Pictures, and Satoshi Ozaki supervising and writing the series scripts. Kazuma Teshigahara (Street Fighter IV: The Ties That Bind) and Hiromi Satō are designing the characters.

The anime will premiere next April on Tokyo MX and other channels, as well as exclusively on the Amazon Prime Video streaming service.

Buronson and Horie wrote the Fist of the Blue Sky manga, with art by Hara. The manga is a prequel to the Fist of the North Star manga. Fist of the Blue Sky launched in the debut issue of Shinchosha's Weekly Comic Bunch magazine in May 2001 and continued until the magazine ceased publication in August 2010. Shinchosha published the series in 22 compiled book volumes.

Gutsoon! Entertainment published part of the manga in English graphic novels and in its Raijin Comics anthology. Gutsoon! described the story:

It is just before WWII, Kasumi Kenshiro hides as a quiet, absent-minded professor teaching literature at a small women's college in Tokyo. Once the 62nd Grand Master of Hokuto Shinken, "God Fist of the North Star," and known has Yan Wang, or "the King of Death," who preserved the peace in the "City of Devils." A fighter of thugs and drug dealers, Kasumi seeks anonymity and a quiet life until the death of his lover, and former brothers, forces him to return to Shanghai to fulfill his destiny and avenge the deaths of his associates.

Tokuma Shoten's Monthly Comic Zenon magazine launching a new manga in the franchise titled Sōten no Ken: Re:Genesis in October. Buronson is credited with editorial supervision, Hara is credited with the original work, Hiroyuki Yatsu is writing the scripts, and Hideki Tsuji is drawing the manga.
