Yoshitomi's School Ningyo manga ends

This year's February issue of Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Sirius announced on Tuesday that Akihito Yoshitomi will resume his Eat-Man The Main Dish manga in the March issue on January 26. His School Ningyo (School Mermaid) horror manga ended in the February issue of Akita Shoten's Champion RED magazine on December 19.

Yoshitomi drew his original Eat-Man manga from 1996 to 2002. The story follows Bolt Crank, a man who can eat anything and reproduce it in his right hand. Eat-Man The Main Dish launched in Shonen Sirius in May 2014 but it has been on hiatus for two and a half years. The third compiled volume shipped in October 2015.

The original manga received anime adaptations in 1997 and 1998. Bandai Entertainment previously released Eat-Man '98 on DVD with an English dub, and Discotek Media recently released both anime on subtitle-only DVD.

Viz Media published part of the original manga in North America.

The fifth and final compiled book volume for School Ningyo is slated for February 20.

Yoshitomi launched the manga in Shōnen Champion and Champion RED in 2013, and ended it in the same year. That first story received two volumes. The manga relaunched with a new story but similar premise in Champion RED in July 2016. Akita Shoten published the manga'a fourth volume in September 20.

The manga is set in a school where students tell of an urban legend of mermaids appearing in the school swimming pool at night. The legend says that whoever eats the meat from one of those mermaids will be able to make their wish of true love come true. In renewal follows two girls named Sakura and Shinobu, who sneak into the pool at night, and use an incantation to summon the mermaids.

ADV Manga published Yoshitomi's Ray manga, while Section23 Films released the Ray television anime and the Blue Drop anime inspired by Yoshitomi's manga of the same name. Yoshitomi also recently drew Cyborg 009 Vs. Devilman: Breakdown, the manga adaptation of the Cyborg 009 Vs. Devilman crossover anime. The one compiled volume shipped in April 2016.
