Warner Bros. began streaming a new video on Friday for the Monster Strike The Movie: Sora no Kanata (Beyond the Sky) 3DCG anime film. The video highlights the new characters who appear in the film.

The film opened in Japan on Friday, and stars:

  • Masataka Kubota (live-action Death Note series' Light, live-action Tokyo Ghoul's Kaneki) as the "boy of destiny" Kanata
  • Yoshimasa Hosoya (Attack on Titan's Reiner, My Hero Academia's Tokoyami) as Tōya, a vampire who fights with Kanata
  • Aoi Yūki (My Hero Academia Tsuyu, Puella Magi Madoka Magica's Madoka) as Yūna, Tōya's younger sister
  • Kouichi Yamadera (Lupin the Third: Part 5's Inspector Zenigata, Dragon Ball Super's Beerus) as liberation front leader Senju

Alice Hirose (live-action Silver Spoon's Aki Mikage, live-action Hyouka's Eru Chitanda) is making her voice acting debut in the film as Sora, a mysterious blue-haired girl. Other cast members include Yutaka Nakano, Rica Matsumoto, Mika Doi, Tomokazu Sugita, Nobunaga Shimazaki, and Atsushi Tamaru.

The film tells an original story and features original characters. The story takes place 13 years ago, when suddenly one part of Tokyo broke off and began to float in the sky. Tokyo was separated into "Old Tokyo" as the part that was floating in the air, and "New Tokyo," the part that stayed on the ground. Communication and interaction between the two Tokyos was impossible, and years passed. One day, a young girl perceives that Old Tokyo will fall back down to the ground, and she sets out on the perilous path from from Old Tokyo to New Tokyo to save the citizens from the impending crisis.

Kanata is a young man who lost both his parents when he was young, and lives with his grandmother. One day, unidentified beings appear in front of him, and he is saved by a mysterious blue-haired girl named Sora. Sora tells Kanata that he is the only one who can save the world. Sora, Kanata, the vampire siblings Tōya and Yūna, and the monsters Ryōma, Kamui, and Hanzō fight together for the fate of the world.

Hiroshi Nishikiori (A Certain Magical Index both seasons and film, Azumanga Daioh, Trinity Seven) directed the film at CG studio Orange. Takayo Ikami wrote the script. XFlag is credited with production, and Warner Brothers is distributing. Tatsurō Iwamoto returned for the original character designs and Yuichi Tanaka adapted the designs for animation. Eiji Inomoto directed the CG animation. Masaru Yokoyama composed the music and Jin Aketagawa served as the sound director. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu performed the theme song "Kizunami."
