The official website for the television anime of Aka Akasaka's Kaguya-sama: Love is War (Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunōsen) manga revealed the second key visual and the January 12 premiere for the series on Wednesday. Character designer Yūko Yahiro illustrated the visual.

The anime will premiere on Tokyo MX, Gunma TV, Tochigi TV, and BS11 on January 12 at 11:30 p.m. The series will also debut later that night on MBS, Chukyo TV, and TV Niigata. An advance screening with the anime's cast members will be held at United Cinemas Toyosu in Tokyo on January 5.

The anime's cast includes:

Aoi Koga as Kaguya Shinomiya

Makoto Furukawa as Miyūki Shirogane

Konomi Kohara as Chika Fujiwara

Ryōta Suzuki as Yū Ishigami

Yumiri Hanamori as Ai Hayasaka

Viz Media is publishing the manga in English, and it describes the story:

All's fair when love is war!

Two geniuses. Two brains. Two hearts. One battle. Who will confess their love first…?!

Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyūki Shirogane are two geniuses who stand atop their prestigious academy's student council, making them the elite among elite. But it's lonely at the top and each has fallen for the other. There's just one huge problem standing in the way of lovey-dovey bliss—they're both too prideful to be the first to confess their romantic feelings and thus become the “loser” in the competition of love! And so begins their daily schemes to force the other to confess first!

Akasaka began the series in Shueisha's Miracle Jump magazine in May 2015 but it moved to Young Jump in March 2016. The 11th compiled volume shipped on September 13, and the 12th volume will ship on December 19. A special side story ran in the debut issue of Young Jump Gold in May 2017. Viz Media published the fifth volume on November 6, and the sixth volume will ship on January 1.

The manga is inspiring two spinoff manga. Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Dōjin-ban (Kaguya-sama: Love is War - Dōjin Edition) by Shinta Sakayama launched on Shueisha's Tonari no Young Jump website on June 14. Kaguya-sama o Kataritai (I Want to Talk With Kaguya) by G3 Ida launched in Young Jump on July 26.
