'Kakure Bitch' Yattemashita. Essay Manga Gets Live-Action Film Next Winter

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

Kobunsha announced on Tuesday that Piroyo Arai's "Kakure Bitch" Yattemashita. (I Was a Stealth Bitch) essay manga is receiving a live-action film adaptation that will open in the winter, at the end of this year. Kōichirō Miki is directing the movie, which already finished principal photography.

The film stars Yui sakuma. (third from left in picture above) as protagonist Hiromi Arai, a woman who only enjoys the fun parts of romance — engaging in many non-sexual dalliances to play with others' feelings without commitment on her part — and is judged as a "stealth bitch" by everyone. (In Japanese, the word "bitch" is closer in offensive connotations to the English word "slut.")

Nijirō Murakami (fourth from left) plays Akira Kojima, Hiromi's bisexual housemate. Suzuka Ohgo (second from left) plays Aya Kimura, another of Hiromi's housemates. She constantly repeats the same bad relationships due to her insecurities. Mirai Moriyama (first from left) plays Mitsuaki Misawa, a person who watches over Hiromi.

In the original essay manga, Arai describes her experiences as a "stealth bitch" who maintains relationships with multiple men while pretending to be a "pure girl." She faces conflict with her toxic parents, as well as herself, in her journey to find her true self.

Arai and Kobunsha published the manga in September 2016.
