posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
AsianCrush, Midnight Pulp, Crunchyroll also simulcast episodes on April 1, before Amazon Prime debut

Sentai Filmworks announced on Wednesday that it has licensed "two special episodes" for the Pop Team Epic anime series. The company will stream the specials on HIDIVE this spring in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The new special was announced at an event last September, and will air on April 1. Sentai Filmworks confirmed with ANN that the two-episode special will be the special that will air on April 1 in Japan, and will include two episodes of 30-minutes each.

Kamikaze Douga is returning to produce the animation, Jun Aoki is returning as director and writer, and Aoi Umeki is returning as director and concept designer.

The earlier Pop Team Epic television anime series premiered in January 2018. HIDIVE, Funimation, Crunchyroll, AsianCrush, and Amazon Prime Video all streamed the anime as it aired in Japan. Adult Swim's Toonami block aired the series starting on June 30.

The anime adapts a surreal four-panel manga by Bkub Okawa that centers around two 14-year-old girls, the short Popuko and the tall Pipimi. April 1, 2019 will mark the second anniversary of the original announcement for the anime adaptation.

Update: Digital Media Rights told ANN on Friday that it will also offer the episodes as a one-hour special on AsianCrush, Midnight Pulp, and Amazon Prime. The special will simulcast on AsianCrush and Midnight Pulp on April 1, before debuting on Amazon Prime later that week.

Update 2: Crunchyroll will also stream the special episode on April 1 at 10:30 a.m. EDT. worldwide except in Asia.
