Violet Evergarden Side Story Anime's August World Premiere in Germany to Continue

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Anime will screen "at request of studio" at ANImagic convention, but without Taichi Ishidate, Shinichirō Hatta

The entertainment news website The Hollywood Reporter reported on Tuesday that Violet Evergarden: Eternity and the Auto Memories Doll (Violet Evergarden Gaiden: Eien to Jidō Shuki Ningyō), the side story to the Violet Evergarden anime, will continue with its world premiere screening at the ANImagic convention in Mannheim, Germany, which runs on August 3 and 4. The ANImagic organizers said that the screening will continue "at the express request of the studio."

The convention also had guests from Kyoto Animation and the Violet Evergarden production staff for the screening, including director Taichi Ishidate, producer Shinichirō Hatta, voice actress Yui Ishikawa (voiced Violet Evergarden in the anime), and theme song singers TRUE and Aira Yūki. The Hollywood Reporter noted that Ishidate and Hatta will no longer attend the convention, but music producer Shigeru Saitō will now attend.

Violet Evergarden: Eternity and the Auto Memories Doll was previously announced with screenings in theaters in Japan from September 6-19. Haruka Fujita (series director for the television series) is returning to direct the anime. Kyoto Animation is also working on a film project for Violet Evergarden that was previously announced with a January 10, 2020 opening in Japan. With the recent fire in Kyoto Animation's 1st Studio Building, it is unclear if the side story anime and the film will still open on those dates.

Kyoto Animation's 1st Studio building suffered a fire on July 18, killing 34 people and injuring 34 others. Kyoto Animation recently opened an account to accept donations. The compay will give the funds to families of the deceased and injured victims of the fire, as well as for rebuilding.
