Hikaru Utada Shares A Re-recorded Version of Their Global Hit Featured In KINGDOM HEARTS
TOKYO, JAPAN – 22 May 2024 – Today, Hikaru Utada surprised fans with the release of a re-recorded version of their global hit English-language single “Simple And Clean.” Known as the English version of their Japanese single “Hikari,” which is featured as a theme song for the action-role-playing game series KINGDOM HEARTS, fans can now enjoy the latest version of the song featuring the artist's deeper delivery.
The surprise release of the song coincides with the announcement of the KINGDOM HEARTS series coming to Steam in June, allowing users to enjoy all ten releases at once. A special trailer for the series' Steam launch featuring “Simple And Clean (Re-Recording)” has been released on YouTube (https://youtu.be/G5_3qdf19BU).
“For the daunting challenge of re-recording one of my most loved songs I enlisted the help of my friend and collaborator A. G. Cook,” says Hikaru Utada. “The new versions of “Simple and Clean”/“Hikari” are still the songs I wrote 22 years ago, but they come from a different place, a different viewpoint. They're reflective, wiser, and kinder. There are no such thing as wins or losses in life, just what we take away from our experiences. I'm in awe of all the lives that KINGDOM HEARTS has touched and enriched, and looking forward to more to come.”
Additionally, special campaigns for fans all over the world celebrating the release of “Simple And Clean (Re-Recording)” have started. From today, fans can participate in two campaigns via music platforms and social media to win an exclusive “Simple And Clean (Re-Recording)” T-shirt. Furthermore, a special “Listening Party” will be held on the music platform Stationhead's “hikkistaff” account today (22 May) at 9 pm Japan Time. The re-recorded version of “Hikari” was featured in the artist's first greatest hits album SCIENCE FICTION released on 10 April this year. The album was certified platinum album by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ), and ranked number one on the Oricon Digital Album Ranking for five consecutive weeks.
