Tamori to Perform Live-Action Tensai Bakabon Show's Theme Song

Japanese comedian, musician, and actor Tamori will perform the theme song for the live-action television adaptation of Fujio Akatsuka's classic comedy manga Tensai Bakabon. He will perform the well-known theme song "Tensai Bakabon" from the 1971 television anime adaptation of the same name.
Tamori had a close relationship with Akatsuka. Akatsuka was a benefactor of Tamori, and the comedian lived in Akatsuka's home for a time while he was building his career.
The live-action series' production team also announced additional cast members on Friday (see gallery below). Takurō Ōno will play a junior officer to Masanobu Takashima (live-action Assassination Classroom's Takaoka), who will also play a police officer. Kazuki Enari will play the "cool guy from that time" in a scene where Bakabon's mother and father have their first date. Fuku Suzuki will play Bakabon's friend.
The live-action show is slated to premiere in March. The series will star the Cream Stew comedy duo member Shinya Ueda and Okazu Club comedy duo member Ocarina (Maki Inao) as Bakabon's father and Bakabon himself, respectively. The other cast members include:
- Nao Matsushita as Bakabon's mother
- Hirara Hayasaka as Hajime-chan
- Fumiyo Kohinata as Rerere no Oji-san
- Masanobu Takashima as Omawari-san
The original manga centers on an idiotic boy and his father. The show's setting will be updated to the present day, but will still retain a Shōwa period atmosphere.
Akatsuka launched the Tensai Bakabon manga series in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 1967. The manga already inspired four television anime series between 1971 and 2000, as well as a full-length anime film last May titled Tensai Bakavon ~Yomigaeru Flanders no Inu~. Akatsuka died in 2008 due to esophageal cancer. His life inspired a biographical film in 2011.
